White is Balance in Photography

White balance in photography is the global adjustment of the intensities of the colors (typically red, green, and blue primary colors). [from:wikipedia]

Take a look at these picture, you are noticing the temperatures of these images.. i haven't changed the temperature using any photo editing software. White Balance feature in your DSRL will allow you to adjust the color of image you take.

Most of camera owner don't understand or use this feature, but it is worth exploring..... till then enjoy shooting

Lightning Photography

Lighting photography is an exciting yet often frustrating task. Result of this task can be amazing if you are lucky.
From last copule of weeks, i have been trying to capture the photos of lighting, two days ago i  clicked these two images.

Focal Length : 24mm   Shutter Speed : 141 sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/5.6 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 4 sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/3.5 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 24mm   Shutter Speed : 276 sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/10 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Tips:
  1. Find a safe place, where you can shoot the lighting storm without any trouble :)
  2. User wide angle lens(i used 18 - 55 mm kit lens)
  3. Something which can hold your camera steady, tripod or bean bag.(i used bean bag)
  4. Shutter speed 30 sec or more. Bulb mode is the best opton, if you have shutter release cable(i used Nikon Nikon MC-DC2 Camera Remote Control)
  5. Open aperture wide to capture more light
  6. Shoot in manual mode
  7. Image format must be RAW(useful when you edit it)
  8. If you have focus ring on your lens, the dial it to infinity.
  9. Click and wait till lighting appears :)

Multiple Exposure hack in Nikon D3100

Hello,

In today's post i'm sharing two pictures which are having multiple exposure. In photography multiple exposure is stacking of two or more exposure create on single image. Most of the higher end Nikon DSLR provides in-built multiple exposure functionality, where you can take a two images with different exposure and that will be superimposed into one single image.

This functionality is not available in Nikon D3100 (the best entry level nikon SLR camera). I found the alternate solution for this in Nikon D3100.

Have you seen Image Overlay function in Retouch Menu? No? then try this today, you will feel good about your camera.. below are the pictures...

Steps to create multiple exposure image
 1. Click Menu button of your Nikon D3100 and then go to retouch..
 2. Select Image overlay
 3. Select any two images from your camera
 4. Then using UP and DOWN arrow, you can adjust the overlaying images.
 5. Save the image.
You can use this saved image and overlay on other image using above steps... to create one single image with three different exposure.

Twist(er) or Flush away effect without using Photoshop.....

In my previous post 3D effect, plain old DSRL trick i explained just by zooming-in or zooming-out you can create 3d effect.. in this post i am explaining how to create twist or flush away of your subject using Digital SLR.. i havent used any photo editor for this effect, .. fist look at these pictures...

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 1/4 of a sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/22 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 1/4 of a sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/22 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 1/4 of a sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/22 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 1/4 of a sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/22 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

Focal Length : 18mm   Shutter Speed : 4.9 sec  f stop(Aperture)  : f/5.6 ISO : 400 White Balance : Auto

Set your camera in shutter priority mode, let your camera decide the aperture value for you, dial you shutter speed 1/4 or higher (may 1 or 2 sec). Focus your subject then then click and rotate you camera body in anti-clock or clock wise, remember click and rotation of camera body should be done at same time, and see the result.

Share your views on this trick.. you can try rotating lens and camera body in opposite direction and check out the results...

Refreshing picture in hot summer

Hi there,

This time, summer in Bangalore is very hot .. so i thought of clicking a picture that will refresh you... so here it is.........

Focal Length : 55mm   Shutter Speed : 1/30 of a sec(0.0333 sec)  f stop(Aperture)  : f/36 ISO : 100 White Balance : Auto

To shoot closeup photos Macro lenses are the ideal choice, i don't have macro lens so i used my 18-55 mm kit lens.

To shoot pictures like this, you need a slice of lemon, sparkling water or club soda and green gift wrap paper for background. Hook the lemon slice to top of glass with clip and keep it on the bench or chair, place gift wrap paper at background. Remember make this setup outside your house or in the park where you will have good amount light.
Mount your SLR to tripod and focus the subject, set your aperture and shutter speed according to the light available. Now action time ... Pour the sparkling water into the glass and click.

You can use a slice of orange with blue background ......

Share your views until then enjoy shooting :)

My first attempt to star trails........

While browsing internet, i found few beautiful pictures of start trails. After seeing those picture, i decided that i will also capture such nice star trails... So i went to WhiZZ the camera store to buy Nikon MC-DC2 shutter release cable for my Nikon D3100 with 18-55 mm.

To shoot star trail we need to consider N number things, for instance... at what time moon shows up, weather, super fast wide angle lens .... but did not know about all these when shot this.

I shot this picture from my balcony with my broken tripod :(

I took 14 photos with 15 sec exposure , used star trail software to stack those pictures and than iPhoto to do some fine tunings.
